Appel de Candidatures au Prix CAIR 2025

Objet

Le prix CAIR vise à récompenser les personnes qui ont apporté des contributions importantes et rendu des services exceptionnels au domaine de la radiologie d’intervention et/ou à l’Association canadienne pour la radiologie d’intervention (CAIR).

  • Les services rendus au domaine de la radiologie d’intervention peuvent comprendre l’enseignement, la recherche, les examens cliniques et/ou la promotion de la radiologie d’intervention ou de CAIR. La qualité et la cohérence de la recherche doivent être validées par des publications dans des revues professionnelles reconnues.
  • Les services rendus à CAIR peuvent comprendre des contributions exceptionnelles à CAIR, à d’autres organismes médicaux et/ou à des agences gouvernementales.

Le prix CAIR peut également être décerné à des personnes qui ont mis à profit leurs compétences passées ou actuelles en vue d’améliorer la qualité des soins aux patients grâce à la pratique de la radiologie d’intervention et/ou qui, par leurs accomplissements exceptionnels, contribuent à la pérennité de ce domaine.

Admissibilité

  • Les candidats doivent être membres en règle de CAIR depuis cinq (5) ans
  • Il n’est pas possible de proposer sa propre candidature
  • Les membres du conseil d’administration de CAIR ne sont pas admissibles pendant leur mandat
  • Les candidatures des lauréats des cinq (5) dernières années ne seront pas retenues

Processus de mise en candidature

Les propositions de candidatures doivent être envoyées par courriel à cairservice@cair.sociationdev.com, avant le 31 decembre 2025. à l’attention du Comité des candidatures, avec comme objet « Candidature au prix CAIR », et comprendre les éléments suivants :

1) Les renseignements nécessaires à la mise en candidature, soit :

  • Les nom, affiliation, titre, adresse, numéro de téléphone et courriel de la personne qui propose la candidature;
  • Les nom, affiliation, titre, adresse, numéro de téléphone et courriel du candidat proposé.

2) Une lettre de mise en candidature de moins de 500 mots détaillant les éléments suivants :

  • Importance des contributions;
  • Qualité et répercussions des contributions;
  • Durée (nombre d’années) de travail significatif;
  • Portée géographique des contributions.

3) Une (1) lettre d’appui à la candidature (en plus de la lettre de la personne qui propose la candidature) de la part d’une personne qui connaît les accomplissements du candidat.

Remarque : la lettre d’appui à la candidature doit provenir d’une personne autre que celle qui propose la candidature.

 Critères d’évaluation

Le processus d’évaluation des candidatures est le suivant :

1) Vérification de l’admissibilité de la candidature

  • La candidature respecte-t-elle les conditions d’admissibilité?
  • Le dossier de candidature est-il complet?

2) Détermination de la valeur de la candidature

  • Si un candidat est jugé admissible, la valeur de sa candidature sera évaluée d’après la lettre de mise en candidature, la lettre d’appui, le CV et l’ensemble des documents du dossier.

3) Sélection : Le Comité des candidatures évaluera les propositions et fera des recommandations au conseil d’administration de CAIR, qui prendra la décision finale.

  • Rien n’oblige CAIR à remettre le prix chaque année.
  • Le prix sera décerné à un lauréat chaque année, sauf circonstances exceptionnelles.
  • Le prix ne pourra être remis à titre posthume que si le lauréat décède après avoir été choisi.

Remise du prix

Le président du conseil d’administration de CAIR remettra le prix lors du Congrès scientifique annuel de l’Association canadienne pour la radiologie d’intervention.

Call for CAIR Award 2025 Nominations

Purpose

The purpose of the CAIR Award is to recognize those who have made significant contributions and provided extraordinary service to the Canadian Interventional Radiology Association and/or the discipline of Interventional Radiology.

  • Service to Interventional Radiology may include teaching, research, clinical investigation, and/or promotion of Interventional Radiology or CAIR. Research must be recognized for quality and consistency by publication in recognized professional journals.
  • Service to CAIR may include outstanding contributions to the CAIR, other medical organizations, and/or government agencies.

The CAIR Award may also recognize individuals who have dedicated their past and present talents to advancing the quality of patient care through the practice of Interventional Radiology, and/or who, by their outstanding achievements, also help to ensure the future of the field.

Eligibility

  • CAIR member in good standing for the past five (5) years
  • Candidates may not nominate themselves
  • CAIR Board members are not eligible during their term of office
  • Individuals will not be considered if they have received an award within the last five (5) years

Nomination Process

Nominations must be submitted via email to cairservice@cair.sociationdev.com, by December 31st, 2025, attention: Nominating Committee, subject: CAIR Award nomination and include the following:

1) Completed nomination information, including:

  • Nominator’s name, affiliation, title, address, phone number, and email.
  • Nominee’s name, affiliation, title, address, phone number, and email.

2) A statement / letter of nomination, not to exceed 500 words, addressing the following areas:

  • Significance of contributions.
  • Quality and impact of contributions.
  • Years (duration) of significant effort.
  • Geographic range of contributions.

3) One (1) letter of support (in addition to the nominator’s narrative) from a person familiar with the nominee’s achievements.

Please note the letter of support must be from a person other than the nominator.

Evaluation Criteria

The process of evaluating nominations is:

1) Determination of eligibility for consideration

  • Does the nomination satisfy the guidelines for eligibility?
  • Is the nomination complete?

2) Determination of merit

  • If a candidate is deemed eligible, the merit of their nomination should be evaluated with respect to the narrative, letter of reference, resume/CV, and any additional supporting documentation.

3) Selection: A nominating committee will review the submissions and make recommendations to the CAIR Board for final approval.

  • CAIR is under no obligation to present the award annually.
  • Except under special circumstances, the award will be given to one nominee each year.
  • Only in the event of the demise of the nominee after being selected shall the award be presented posthumously.

Presentation of the Award

The CAIR Board President will present the Award at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Canadian Association for Interventional Radiology.

Interventional Radiologist | Niagara Health

 

The Department of Radiology at Niagara Health is seeking a fellowship-trained Interventional Radiologist to join the Diagnostic Imaging Service for a start date in 2025. The candidate will join a team of 30 radiologists. NH is a campus of McMaster University and candidates will be expected to be eligible for academic appointment.

Interventional radiology at Niagara Health has undergone rapid growth in the past few years. With the exception of EVAR and peripheral arterial interventions, the full gamut of interventional procedures are performed in our department. Procedures we perform include all aspects of interventional oncology, spine augmentation, dialysis access, emergency embolizations, PAE amongst many others. Our hospital has been identified by the HNHBB Working Group as offering the equivalent level of service as the major McMaster University teaching sites, with the exception of subspeciality services like interventional neuroradiology and paediatric IR. We have recently started a thrombectomy (including pulmonary thrombectomy) service. The successful candidate will join a progressive and collegial team of 3 other interventional radiologists on a 1:4 interventional call with full technologist/nursing support. The radiologists work closely with- and have an excellent working relationship with the technologists and nurses in our department.

We currently have access to a Philips angiography suite and a Philips fluoroscopy suite in St Catharines. Interventional procedures are also performed in the ultrasound and CT departments. The Philips fluoroscopy will be replaced by a Canon Alphenix Core system while plans are being made to replace the angiography suite with a hybrid CT-angio system. The new Niagara South site will feature one Canon Alphenix Core and one Canon Alphenix Sky angiography suite, along with a recovery unit within the radiology department itself. We have a strong record of teaching and research for a community teaching centre. We have an IR fellowship program that is run in conjunction with the Juravinski hospital.

As a full time member within the Department of Radiology, the successful candidate will promote clinical excellence and have a strong commitment to support the NH vision and mission. The successful candidate will participate in all departmental quality initiatives as well as support our academic objectives. As an Interventional Radiologist the successful candidate will collaborate with a highly efficient team supporting NH clinical programs. NH and the department are going through a period of rapid change including recent PACS and voice recognition renewal, new HIS and expansion of the CT and MRI programs. The department has played an integral part in the planning for a new South Niagara acute care Hospital site.

The successful candidate will be expected to be a supportive team player, with a strong commitment to patient care and quality improvement. The successful candidate will hold certification in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent.

The Practice

  • The successful candidate is expected to participate fully in a co-operative way with the other members encompassing all image guided interventional procedures included vascular access, arterial, hepatobiliary, and genitourinary interventions including a strong interventional oncology program with tumor ablation and TACE, spine augmentation, UAE and thrombectomy. There are opportunities to be involved in the treatment of vascular malformations for the interested individual.
  • The candidate is expected to participate in other diagnostic imaging rotations including fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, and x-ray. Opportunities also exist to do rotations in MRI, nuclear medicine and breast imaging for the interested individual.

Academic Affiliations

The McMaster University’s Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine has expanded to a regional campus in Niagara, which is located at Brock University. Students at the Niagara Regional Campus complete their clinical rotations in one of the six area hospitals with teaching done by the highly skilled and motivated hospital physicians.

  • Excellent clinical skills are a prerequisite for this high volume department

Shipping

Shipments are to be sent directly to Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Material handling costs are the responsibility of the exhibitor. Guests bringing goods with them are responsible for loading from/to their vehicle to the exhibit. For those who will be shipping material to the event, please use the attached shipping label to send your box(es)*. Shipments will be accepted from February 3, 2025—please do not ship for delivery in advance of this date.

It is always best you track your shipments for the most updated information – please ensure you provide CAIR organizers with all the information requested below:

If more than one shipment, advise CAIR of each shipment to ensure everything will be at your table for set up without delay.

Insurance

Exhibitors must have their own liability insurance. In the event of fire, flooding, or theft, no matter how caused, CAIR and the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and their representatives assume no liability for any bodily harm or material damage to products, booths, equipment, or decorations occupying any rented space within the building or being moved in or out of the building.


Move-In & Setup

Exhibitors may set up their tabletop booth on Thursday, February 6th from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.


Dismantle & Move-Out

Exhibitors may dismantle their tabletop booth on Saturday, February 8th at 6:30 pm.  Exhibitors are asked not to dismantle their booths before 6:30 pm as a courtesy to delegates and other exhibitors who are still conducting business.

Conference-Related Terms 

  1. Sponsorship payment secures your spot, and the exhibit booths will be assigned first-come, first-served based on the date payment is received. Organizers will decide on final placement based on the order of registration, special requests, type of business, etc.
  2. CAIR may reject, remove, or prohibit any exhibit/display in whole or in part, or any Exhibitor or its representatives if, in the opinion of CAIR representatives, the exhibit or the activities of the representatives are inappropriate or detrimental to the conference or event associated with the conference. In the case of such a removal, the Exhibitor will forfeit fees paid to CAIR and the Exhibitor will be liable for any damages due to its actions.
  3. Use of a booth space by two or more companies is not permitted. Subletting of space is not permitted.
  4. Any Exhibitor who is a “no-show,” meaning that the booth is not set up and staffed by 7:00 am on Friday, February 7, 2025 (without prior permission) will forfeit the booth space. Non-attendance does not constitute cancellation on the Exhibitor’s part, and no refunds or credits will be issued. CAIR may replace a no-show’s booth space at its discretion.
  5. CAIR will not be liable for any errors or omissions in conference promotional materials.

Interventional Radiologist – Hamilton General Site, ON

 

ACADEMIC POSITION: Interventional Radiologist (IR) – Hamilton General Site

The Hamilton General Hospital is a large tertiary referral centre, with a busy vascular surgical service and Level 1 trauma program.  The preferred candidate will have fellowship training in interventional radiology. The interventional radiology practice includes vascular work (i.e. angiograms, angioplasty/stenting, embolization, thrombectomy/thrombolysis), and non-vascular work (i.e. biopsy, drainage, gastrostomy, GJ tubes, nephrostomy).  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop new services and establish an IR consultation clinic in collaboration with colleagues.  The position also includes some general radiology/body imaging assignments.  The successful candidate should be comfortable with interpretation of vascular ultrasound and CT. The position involves participation in the city-wide interventional radiology on call roster at the Hamilton Health Sciences sites encompassing Hamilton General Hospital, the Juravinski Hospital and the McMaster University Medical Center. Candidates must possess skills that enhance our interdisciplinary tertiary clinical team and collaborative environment, including participation in regularly-scheduled multidisciplinary rounds.  The position involves scheduling for clinical work, subspecialty and teaching rounds, encompassing assignments in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Position Profile: This is a full-time faculty position at McMaster University, with academic rank commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.  The successful candidate will promote clinical scholarship through teaching, mentorship and support for research and will demonstrate excellence in clinical care, exhibit collegial, civil relations in all interactions. The McMaster Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program is a highly rated training program in Canada.  Participation in teaching and supervision for our strong residency and undergraduate programs is required.  The interventional radiologists also participate in teaching and supervision of trainees in the McMaster Interventional Radiology fellowship program.

CAIR Member Spotlight – Dr. Aida Ahrari

It is with pleasure that we introduce our CAIR-RFS member spotlight: Dr. Aida Ahrari. Aida is a second-year radiology resident at the University of Toronto. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa, and MD-MSc at the University of Toronto. In her role as a member of the CAIR-RFS committee, Aida is involved in organizing a variety of educational opportunities for trainees interested in the field of interventional radiology.

Aida’s research interest includes optimizing safety in the field of interventional radiology. In collaboration with a team at University Health Network, she has studied sources of error in the use of vascular closure devices and angiographic equipment. She has presented this work as an oral presentation at the 2022 annual Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) and the 2022 North American Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) conferences. Aida is grateful for the mentorship of her supervisor, Dr. Sebastian Mafeld, and for the contribution of her colleagues to this work.

Aida has a strong interest in healthcare leadership and innovation, which led her to complete a Master’s in Health System Leadership and Innovation at the University of Toronto. She went on to create the Entrepreneurship in Healthcare Program—a teaching initiative that promotes innovative design to medical students through a structured curriculum delivered by physician innovators and entrepreneurs. Now in its fourth year, the program has expanded its offering to medical students across Ontario.
For Aida, working with her colleagues to develop and grow the program has been deeply rewarding.
Looking ahead into the future, Aida hopes to combine her interests in medical innovation, program building, and interventional radiology.

In her spare time, Aida is an avid cyclist who rarely misses a morning spin session. She also enjoys playing tennis and hiking. Aida has a pet cat named Dalton who isn’t camera shy and has appeared in most of her zoom meetings at one point or another.

Radiologiste d’intervention | Dalhousie University | Nova Scotia Health

Dalhousie University Department of Radiology and Nova Scotia Health’s QEII Health Sciences Center Department of Diagnostic Imaging is offering a full-time faculty position for an Interventional Radiologist. The candidate will be an addition to an academic practice group of 36 sub-specialized radiologists, 6 of which are interventional radiologists.

The successful candidate will have Royal College Radiology certification and preferably Royal College Interventional Radiology subspecialty certification. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest and academic track record in education and/or research and a desire to advance the field of Interventional Radiology. Academic rank will be in accordance with prior achievements.

Interventional radiology work is primarily at the QEII Health Sciences Center (Halifax Infirmary and Victoria General hospitals); however, there is some additional procedure time at the IWK Health Centre, a women’s and children’s hospital. The QEII is the largest adult tertiary care center in Atlantic Canada and is a Level 1 trauma center, 590 bed facility. The three hospitals are in close walking distance. A large expansion project is underway at the Halifax Infirmary site (https://healthredevelopment.novascotia.ca/qe2/halifax-infirmary-expansion)

Our practice involves the complete breadth of Interventional Radiology procedures under ultrasound, computed tomography and fluoroscopic imaging guidance. From biopsies and drainages to oncologic and complex vascular angiographic work, we do it all! This year we are on track for over 8,000 procedures. With 3-4 Interventional radiologists doing procedures daily, there is also a mix of IR clinic and diagnostic imaging work in our practice.

The Halifax Infirmary site has been redeveloped this past year with new IR recover bay, single and biplane units, C-arm room and dedicated IR CT. The Victoria General site has a new single plane unit, dedicated IR CT and additional IR C-arm.

We have a great working relationship with referring services and provide interventional radiology care for patients from around the province and some patients with complex medical care needs throughout the Atlantic region.

The QEII Health Sciences Centre is the core adult clinical teaching facility for Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine. In addition to residency programs in Diagnostic Radiology, Neuroradiology and Nuclear Medicine, the Department of Diagnostic Imaging offers a variety of fellowship programs. The Department is affiliated with the Biomedical Translational Imaging Centre (BIOTIC), a lab conducting research in high field strength magnetic resonance imaging, and preclinical imaging devices and techniques.
